Customized Workshops for the Winners of the SEED Awards
adelphi provided support for the winners of the SEED Awards for the third time in a row. In customized workshops, the consultants passed on the tools required for sustainable and successful growth to the 35 winners in 2011 from Africa and Asia.
adelphi devised individual packages that had been specifically customized to the winners’ needs, including a package for the first prize-winner of the Gender Equality Award. The service ranged from drawing up business plans and performance indicators, all the way to assistance for developing strong regional and national networks. Additionally, adelphi also makes use of online platforms and supports the initiatives in the area of capacity building, for example with webinars on questions and issues concerning sustainable entrepreneurship.
In the past year, over 450 projects from all across the globe applied for the highly regarded awards conferred by the SEED Initiative. The organization awards promising local businesses with an innovative and sustainable approach, in developing and newly industrialized countries. Inspired by the partnership with the Green Economy Initiative of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), the regional focus in 2010-2011 was on Africa, in particular Burkina Faso, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana and Rwanda.
The SEED Initiative was established in 2002 by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and forms part of UNEP. It is joint-coordinated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the BMU.
