International Workshop on Financing Energy Efficiency in Buildings

With the support of adelphi the KfW Entwicklungsbank organised a workshop on “Financing Energy Efficiency in Buildings”, which took place from February 16-17, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main. 100 international representatives from policy institutions, the banking sector as well as research institutions with a focus on energy efficiency discussed opportunities and challenges for financing energy efficiency in buildings. » more

adelphi’s Exhibition on Environmental Conflicts at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil

On Friday 26 Jan 2012, adelphi’s exhibition on "Environment, Conflict and Cooperation" (ECC) has been launched at the World Social Forum with a focus on the civil societal preparation of the upcoming UN environmental conference “Rio+20”. The exhibition was jointly conceptualized by adelphi and the Brazilian environmental organization “Vitae Civilis”. It addresses the question, how climate change, environmental degradation and resource scarcity can be drivers of social and political conflict. » more

Workshop on Energy Security in Central Asia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held a training session on scenario workshops in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 1-2 February with the aim of developing long-term strategies and planning energy policy. adelphi helped prepare and carry out the workshop together with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSZE). » more

In the coming months, the website anpassung.net of the Competence Centre on Climate Impacts and Adaptation of the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) will be comprehensively relaunched. » more

New Publication: Water Conflict Framework

As part of the Initiative for Peacebuilding-Early Warning (IfP-EW), adelphi developed a framework to analyze potential water conflicts, which has now been published. The Water, Crisis and Climate Change Assessment Framework (WACCAF) has already been tested together with Partner Organizations in Uganda and India during training sessions and the results have also been published in two Policy Briefs. » more

New Project: Conference on Water and Urbanisation in China

Water is a precious and scarce resource in China, the most populous country of the world. Against this background the conference “Water Scarcity and Urbanization in China – Challenges and Possible Solutions” will take place on March 20, 2012 in Peking. The conference is organised by the KfW Entwicklungsbank on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). adelphi is tasked with the logistical and organisational management of the conference and provides an experienced and professional facilitator. » more

Interim Report: Conflict Sensitive Adaptation

On the 18th of January 2012 adelphi presented the Midterm-Results of the research on Security Risks of Climate Change with regards to technical and political adaptation processes at a seminar in Berlin. The outcomes were discussed with experts from ministries, NGO’s and academia. The Research Project which started in October 2010 is undertaken on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency and analyses the interlinkages of climate change, adaptation, and crisis prevention. » more

New Project: Support of CSR Consultants from Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

The European Commission's EU 2020 Strategy highlights the significance of implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies in European small and medium-sized enterprises in order to foster growth, create jobs and enable sustainable development in Europe. On behalf of the European Commission, adelphi is supporting an exchange between European CSR consultants from small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) with the aim of enhancing the quality of the services on offer. » more

New Project: Indicators to monitor the Energy Transition

In the summer of 2011 the Federal Government passed energy transition legislation, initiating a wide-ranging and swift restructuring of Germany's energy system. The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies e.V. (IASS) commissioned adelphi to select indicators which will help depict the various facets of this energy transition as comprehensively as possible. » more

New Project: Comprehending and reducing Rebound Effects

adelphi is working together with two project partners on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) to research the causes and the extent of rebound effects. The project will run over two years: the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and Ernst Basler + Partner will firstly conduct an analysis of rebound effects and the actions required to reduce them. adelphi will subsequently use this as a basis to develop environmental policy recommendations which aim to prevent rebound effects in the area of energy and resources policy. » more
