The conflict potential of natural resources.
Hightech products determine our lives in many ways. The natural resources necessary for these however, are not always readily available, at the right conditions. Rather, there are numerous risks in ensuring the supply-safety, not least because they can also influence the success of attaining ambitious climate protection and sustainability targets.
adelphi and the Wuppertal Institute have comprehensively processed the risks and potential for conflict in the use of important natural resources. In the face of highly cross-linked resource flows as well as the changing political, economic and social framework conditions in the producing, transit and consuming countries, it is insufficient for politicians to simply take a national focus when making efforts to guarantee the security of energy supply. 42 percent reduction in greenhouse gases
adelphi has been commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) to look into the climate intensity of investments and their effects on climate protection.
A successful climate protection policy requires lots of effort within both the economy and society. Large sums of money have to be invested and far-reaching strategic decisions made in order to limit the global temperature rise to the maximum viable 2°C. Investors will play a key role in shaping a new low-carbon economy. This includes providing the necessary capital, as well as the active role they play as owners of a company. » more
