At adelphi, we understand sustainability to mean acting responsibly in the interests of future generations. We are convinced that only a corporate governance strategy that is orientated around clear values and sustainability can be successful in the long run. Sustainability is the foundation of our business operations, which are orientated to forward-looking solutions and long term success, as well as the guiding principle of our business internally and externally.

Environmental Declaration

Climate protection and resource conservation are amongst the central elements of adelphi’s daily project work. The environmental management systems EMAS and ISO 14001 as well as our environmental policy thereby form the basis of the efficient and environmentally sound development of our company.

adelphi’s Environmental Declaration and Climate Neutrality are the most visible expressions of our efforts in the fields of climate protection and sustainability. The areas of travel, energy, resources and climate neutrality are central here.

Travelling
To fulfill our project tasks business travel is unavoidable for our employees. However, based on our environmental policy, we orientate our activities around the principle of sustainable mobility and try our best to keep business travel to a minimum. We have also developed guidelines for environmentally sound travel management.



Energy
We also consider our power consumption to be a significant environmental issue. Thus, 100 % of our energy consumption at all offices in Berlin is covered by renewable energy.





Resources
In terms of our office equipment, we place particular emphasis on environmentally friendly and ecological procurement. We use 100 % recycled, FSC certified and EU Flower eco-labelled paper. When possible, we work with EMAS and FSC certified printers for all our publications.



Climate Neutrality
Furthermore, all environmental impacts of our project activities are made climate neutral. Since 2008 we compensate for our CO₂ emissions from business travel as well as from electricity and heating.

CO₂-Compensation

To compensate for our CO₂ emissions we work together with firstclimate, an integrated carbon asset management company that offers products and services related to the trading of emission reduction credits and invests in greenhouse gas abatement projects around the world which are verified to the highest international standards.

To offset the emissions produced by adelphi, we currently support a project in Ghana that promotes cleaner and more efficient cooking in Ghanaian households. 

About the project

As in many developing countries, cooking stoves are traditionally fired by wood or coal. This project’s efficient cooking stoves not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions through their low consumption, but also decrease soot, health risks and the costs to project participants, who come from the poorest strata of society.
