Associate

Daphne Gondhalekar is an Associate with adelphi in the field of urban planning since 2011. Additional areas of work include urban water management and energy efficiency.

In parallel to being associated with adelphi, Daphne Gondhalekar has been a Senior Researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at Bonn University since 2009. Prior to this position, she worked as Postdoctoral Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. She also carried out an internship at Environmental Planning Collaborative (EPC), a non-profit urban planning organization in Ahmedabad, India.

Daphne Gondhalekar studied Architecture and Urban Design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland, and at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and completed her doctoral thesis in Urban Planning at the Ecosystems Department, University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2007.

In 2008, Daphne Gondhalekar founded Urban Environment (URBEN) Group, an interdisciplinary international collaboration of urban planning professionals. The group has developed a set of urban design tools which have been presented at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum V, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2010 and at the UN-HABITAT Governing Council Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2011.
