Climate change is one of the main global challenges of the 21st century society. More effort is needed to make low carbon societies a reality. adelphi supports its clients in the key climate policy areas of reduction, adjustment, technology and funding, as well as in renewable energies and energy efficiency. This support includes monitoring international political processes, positioning new topics on the political agenda and developing and realising climate protection and energy campaigns. We investigate the consequences of climate change, evaluate climate and energy policy instruments and develop action strategies and decision-making systems for harmonisation processes in developing and newly industrialised countries. To drive forward energy modernisation processes in businesses, we supervise the introduction of energy management systems and efficiency measures and implement the requisite training and skills programmes.
Adaptation and Vulnerability
Adaptation to climate change is increasingly important both for governments and for businesses. We investigate the demands posed by adaptation, develop strategies and decision-making aids for adaptation programmes, and help institutions to integrate these demands into sectoral and regional programmes. Emissions Trading
As a market-based instrument, emissions trading is an innovative climate policy tool. The key focus of adelphi’s work in this policy field is the analysis of existing and emerging emissions trading systems (ETS), and the further development of the international carbon market. We assist in dialogue and exchange between representatives of various ETS and with stakeholders, thereby contributing to the sharing of existing experience on emissions trading. adelphi is the lead partner in the Working Group on Emissions Trading (AGE) and supports the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP). » more
Energy and Environment Security
International security is increasingly threatened by energy resource shortages and the impact of climate change. adelphi produces regional and sectoral risk analyses for international organisations and operates the world's largest information portal in this area. We anchor climate and environement security standards in bilateral and multilateral dialogues and support implementing agencies with methods for building conflict awareness programmes. » more
Energy Efficiency
Both industry and private homes harbour enormous potential for energy efficiency. This is where energy management systems play a central role. As part of an energy efficiency campaign, we are supporting the energy saving programmes in 5000 hotels in Germany. We are developing an energy efficiency programme for the Thai holiday island of Kho Khao and sharing the German experience of efficient power station technologies with experts from India. » more
Renewable Energies
Fostering renewable energies is the key to sustainable energy supplies. We review the potential of a low carbon economy by dialogue with leading newly industrialised countries, have actively participated in the process of founding the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and, within the Major Economies Forum (MEF), advise the Federal Government on technological cooperation in solar power. » more
