Anja Renner works as a Project Manager at adelphi in the field of sustainable consumption. She develops, implements and evaluates sustainability strategies at the national level, and ensures that these are public welfare-oriented.
In this capacity, she is supporting the German Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety with implementing the national programme for sustainable consumption. She is further assisting these agencies with the implementation of environmental strategies that strengthen socio-ecological ways of living. Within the framework of the EU-funded project Horizon 2020, headed by the European Commission, Anja is developing strategies that aim to reduce energy use by consumers while taking digitalisation into consideration. Furthermore, she is assisting the German Environment Agency with creating an accounting system that evaluates and promotes sustainable tourism in Germany. She has gathered multiple years of work experience both in non-profit organisations and commercial enterprises. Accordingly, Anja is familiar with the varying perspectives of associations, non-governmental organisations, local municipalities, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises and transnational corporations.
Her previous position focused primarily on developing common standards, promoting partnerships, and networking activities between academia, the industry, and politics. Anja previously spent more than six years working for the sustainability organisation Futouris e.V. In this position, she implemented various projects targeting sustainable tourism structures as well as resource- and climate protection in Germany and abroad in cooperation with public institutions, international corporations and local partners. Prior to this, Anja contributed to the sustainability strategy and sustainable reporting mechanisms for the Central Europe Division at the Thomas Cook travel agency. Furthermore, Anja was responsible for project development and sustainability evaluations of tourism projects for the Ecuadorian EC Travel Corporation.
Anja obtained her Diplom (eq. MA) in Business Administration, with a regional focus on Latin America, at the Technische Universität Dresden. She spent her semester abroad at the Universidad de Alicante, Spain. For her diploma dissertation, Anja generated recommendations for the implementation of sustainable supply-chain management and assessed certification systems on behalf of the Thomas Cook AG.
