Sophia Stock is a Research Analyst at adelphi. She works on the topics of energy efficiency, resource efficiency, waste management, and climate change mitigation. She is currently supporting the programme leadership of the National Top Runner Initiative (NTRI), an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) that aims to promote energy efficient products. Besides, she contributes to the development of country studies and the organisation of international conferences.
Prior to her work at adelphi, Sophia gained practical experience in development cooperation work, international business consulting, and in working at foundations. During her time at the department "Central and East Asia" of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), she dealt with issues relating to development policy and the energy industry in Central Asia. While at GOPA Consultants and a&d consult, she gained further experience in international consulting, including the production of project offers. Her work focussed on the areas of education and employment promotion. Her position at the Robert Bosch Foundation in Berlin focussed on peace and international cooperation.
Sophia completed a master’s degree in political science at the Universität Potsdam, Germany. During her studies she specialised in development cooperation, international climate policy, and sustainable urban development. For her master’s thesis she analysed various causes of urban water crises using the example of the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil. Furthermore, Sophia holds a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies from the Universität Magdeburg, Germany and at the Universidade do Porto, Portugal. The focuses of her bachelor’s studies included international management, European and international politics, and the politics and culture of Eastern Europe.
