Call for applications for the "EMAS Umweltmanagement 2018" Awards

The Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry e. V. are once again honouring outstanding and exemplary companies and organisations working with EMAS. The application deadline for the competition is 31 January.

The national award for "EMAS-Umweltmanagement 2018" (EMAS-Environmental Management 2018) is aimed at companies and organizations that have implemented and continue develop their environmental management system in an innovative way and in accordance with the EMAS (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). The winners will also qualify for an application to the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) in the category "Management."

The jury will pay special attention to the following criteria:

  • Strategic integration of environmental and sustainability concerns into business processes
  • Improvements in environmental quality and performance
  • Effective involvement of employees and of other stakeholders
  • Transparency and credibility, especially with regard to supply chains and procurements
  • The ability for implemented measures to act as an exemplary case and model for others

The best companies in the  "small, medium and large companies" as well as "organizations from the public administration" categories will be awarded. The application is open to all companies and organizations with a valid EMAS registration. Nationally awarded EMAS companies also qualify for an application to the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) in the Management category.

The awards ceremony will take place at the end of 2018 as part of an expert discussion at the Federal Ministry for the Environment in Berlin, to which all companies and organisations participating in the competition will be invited.

Applications are due by Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at midnight.

The Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry e. V. (DIHK) is accepting the applications and coordinating the selection process. The selection will be made by a jury consisting of experts from the Federal Environment Ministry, the Federal Environment Agency, the German Accreditation and Admission Board for Environmental Surveyors (DAU), the German EMAS Advisory Board, and the DIHK.
