During the UNEP-hosted event on the green economy in Mali on 20-25 June, SEED’s Executive Director Helen Marquard, launched the 2010 SEED Awards. The SEED Award for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development was designed to find the most promising, innovative and locally led start-up social and environmental entrepreneurs in countries with developing and emerging economies.

In 2010 the SEED Awards will have a special focus on Africa, with up to 20 awards being made to promising social and environmental entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and Senegal. In addition, there will be up to 10 awards in South Africa, and up to 5 elsewhere in the developing world. On behalf of the SEED Secretariat, adelphi is managing the SEED Awards already for the fifth time. Thereby, adelphi supports the applicants in developing business plans, carries out in-country business-oriented workshops and contributes to the selection process.
