Innovative, eco-inclusive enterprises from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa and Uganda have the opportunity to apply for up to 15 SAG-SEED Awards by 8 March. Start-ups offering sustainable solutions in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and waste management can apply.
Applications are open for the 2017 SAG-SEED Awards! The SAG-SEED Awards are for innovative start-up enterprises that aim to generate environmental, social and economic benefits at the local level. The application process pursues a partnership approach and is directed at small and growing start-up enterprises.
Winners receive a tailored, one-on-one advisory service that offers them assistance with their business and financial planning (capacity-building). This includes a 3-day business planning workshop and three-months of support from a local expert advisor. The winners also receive self-help instruments that enable enterprises to prioritise and address their most urgent needs (tools). These include, for example, market analyses, developing a funding strategy, mapping stakeholder relationships, or measuring impacts. SAG-SEED winners are profiled nationally and regionally through a high-level awards ceremony and internationally through SEED marketing and promotional activities such as our website, blog and social media channels (profiling). SEED also facilitates connections to valuable contacts with organisations, such as funders, policymakers, other enterprises such as SEED alumni and SEED partners and associates (networking).
SAG-SEED Award winners must: demonstrate entrepreneurship and innovation; deliver economic, social and environmental benefits; have the intention and potential to become financially sustainable; be a partnership between different stakeholder groups; be locally oriented or locally led; have potential for scale-up or significant replication and be in the early stages of implementation.
The 2017 SAG-SEED Awards are supported by the SWITCH-Africa Green project, carried out by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) with the assistance of the European Union. Prizes for South African enterprises will be co-financed by the Government of Flanders.
Applications should be submitted either online or via email in PDF form. For more information, visit the website http://adelph.it/AWARDS2017 or contact seedawards2017seed [dot] uno (seedawards2017[at]seed[dot]uno) via email.
