For the seventh year in a row, adelphi has been commissioned to manage the SEED Awards. This year, the award scheme continues its focus on Africa and makes available up to 55 SEED Awards, rendering it one of the biggest award schemes for social and environmental entrepreneurs worldwide.
As in previous years, the SEED Awards focus on the African continent. Social and environmental entrepreneurs from Ethiopia, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda are called to apply for a total of up to 30 SEED Africa Awards. This year’s expansion of the SEED pilot country program in South Africa will make available up to 12 SEED South Africa Awards.
Continuing support will also be provided for the SEED Gender Equality Awards and SEED Low Carbon Awards, introduced in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Up to ten Low Carbon Awards will be made available to enterprises from Colombia, India, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam, whose business models are contributing to climate change mitigate and/or adaptation. Up to three Gender Equality Awards will be granted to enterprises that are women-led or women-owned and/or specifically promote gender equality and women empowerment. All winners will be rewarded with individual support during the important start-up and growth phase, a financial contribution, and far-reaching national and international profiling of their enterprises.
Having become the SEED Hosting Partner last spring, adelphi was now once again commissioned with the entire operation of the award scheme by the Environment and Development Programs of the United Nations (UNEP and UNDP) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The tasks include the marketing and advertising of the competition, pre-selection process, as well as the management and coordination of the entire jury process. Since 2005 SEED has been rewarding promising social and environmental start-up ventures in countries with developing or emerging economies.
