With the conference date scheduled just after the UN Summit to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (New York, Sept 2015) and before the UNFCCC COP 21 (Paris, Nov/Dec 2015), the International Conference on Climate Action (ICCA) will serve to highlight local contributions for low-carbon, sustainable urban development. In doing so, ICCA aims to promote local climate action as a key driver for transformation processes towards improved climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Prizes of the "Local climate action 2015" contest mark the highlight of the conference
The conference's objective is to foster deliberations on political strategies, necessary regulatory frameworks and successful implementation of international efforts. Representatives from municipalities, regional and national government, networks, foundations and research institutions will get together to present, learn, and discuss different approaches and experiences of local climate action from a variety of cities, regions and countries. To this end, ICCA will feature a range of diverse formats, from high level discussions to open market places and interactive workshops. The highlight of the two-day conference will be the award ceremony on 1 October, celebrating best practice in local climate action in Germany as part of the nation-wide competition "Local climate action 2015" (Kommunaler Klimaschutz 2015).
Furthermore, the German Institute for Urban Affairs (ifu) will hold its regional level meeting within the context of the ICCA conference. Co-operation partners are the Association of German Cities, the German County Association and the German Association of Towns and Municipalities.
More information about topics and speakers will be available soon. Please save the date and indicate if you would like to participate by e-mail to: contact@icca2015.org.
