Tourism in Pangandaran, Indonesia, shall become more climate-friendly and thus contribute to international climate change mitigation. adelphi was contracted by the UNWTO designed and conceptualised a training of trainers which took place from March 12-14, 2012 in Bandung/West Java.
The training is part of the three-year project “Sustainable Tourism through Energy Efficiency with Adaptation and Mitigation Measures in Pangandaran, Indonesia” (STREAM), which is being implemented by a consortium of partners as part of the International Climate Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety The core content of the training for representatives of Indonesian destination management organisations and district officcials included the local impacts of climate change and appropriate adaptation measures at tourist destinations, as well as climate change mitigation in tourism through the promotion of sustainable infrastructure. More than 50 participants were first familiarised with the mainstreaming of climate change into district and destination level planning, and then worked through the harmonisation of different plans.
