The financial services sector can play a key role in combating climate change. The close correlation between climate protection and financial services is generally not perceived adequately however. Consequently, the aim of the project was to boost awareness of climate-friendly financial services among providers and among private and corporate clients alike.
Despite the financial crisis, the "Climate and Finance" Action Week attracted great interest from German financial services providers. Almost 40 partners, over 100 organisations and more than 1,000 branches took part in the campaign. The Action Week was launched by a high-ranking conference, attended among others by German Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen. In addition to the extensive information resources and successful PR, it was the partners who played a key role in targeting private and corporate clients with a wide variety of campaigns and events to provide them with all the information they need in relation to climate-friendly investments, loans and pension plans. Other highly effective communication channels were the website, an interactive short film and trailer, and a roadshow exhibition.
The project also incorporated two scientific studies: One investigated the climate intensity of capital investments, while the other looked into the effects of capital investments on climate protection activities in business and industry. The "Climate and Finance" Action Week successfully laid a foundation to build on with further relevant activities and developments in the financial sector in Germany.
