This project aimed at integrating climate change issues into the local tourism industry and supporting local adaptation measures. It had emerged from a collaboration of Thailand’s Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) on this topic.
adelphi was assigned to assess the impacts of tourism on climate change and vice versa for a group of islands in Southeast Thailand: The Koh Chang Cluster Designated Area. adelphi calculated a project baseline of current green house gas emissions from tourism and proposed mitigation measures. Based on the assessment, a visualisation software tool and accompanying handbook was developed to assist the project stakeholders in future decision making processes by taking into account climate change issues.
