Companies today are required to live up to corporate responsibility for human rights. adelphi carried out a study to assess the possible ways in which the state can support German businesses in these efforts. In semi-structured interviews, representatives from companies, civil society organisations, associations, academics and other stakeholders were asked how state institutions can support companies in fulfilling their corporate responsibility for human rights.
Furthermore, as part of a best-practice analysis, adelphi also researched the approaches taken by state institutions in other nations to support companies in meeting their human rights responsibilities. The international case studies look at selected initiatives in Denmark, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands and the USA.
As a basis for the survey, adelphi drew on the United Nations' Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, a global framework for corporate responsibility as regards human rights.
