More and more organisers of congresses, seminars and conferences are taking sustainability into consideration when choosing where their events will take place. The technical equipment’s energy efficiency, the procurement of local and organic products and waste prevention are becoming ever more important in competition between conference halls. Conference halls can win points with their guests by meeting environmental criteria and communicating their commitment to environmental issues effectively.
Tourismus-Congress Frankfurt GmbH is the conference marketing operation of the city of Frankfurt am Main. It operates an information portal with the city’s leading conference halls and is the first point of contact for event organisers looking for suitable venues for their functions. In support of Frankfurt’s conference halls and hotels’ work on ecological compliance and to help them to demonstrate their ecological performance before the booking stage, Tourismus-Congress Frankfurt GmbH commissioned adelphi to develop a sustainability catalogue. The result of this has been a catalogue of criteria, in both German and English, which sets out criteria in the various categories of energy, food, water and waste, and forms a basis for self-assessment. More than 40 large conference halls and hotels in Frankfurt are already researching and reporting on their Green Policy on the basis of the catalogue of criteria developed by adelphi.
