
The prestigious European EMAS Awards have been awarded by the European Commission since 2005. They recognise singular performances in environmental management among EMAS registered organisations. adelphi was put in charge of organising the 2011 edition of the event, which included planning and carrying out marketing activities, organising the work of the jury and hosting the prize giving ceremony which was held in Cracow, Poland in November 2011.
European companies and public organisations competed for the sought-after awards in six categories. Each year, the prizes are awarded on the basis of a different aspect of the environmental management regulation. For the 2011 EMAS Awards, 36 organisations from 15 European countries were nominated. The six winners had not only performed outstandingly regarding eco-friendliness and environmental protection, but had also developed innovative solutions to involve stakeholders such as employees, customers, suppliers, and other interested parties in the continual improvement of their organisation’s environmental performance.
The European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a management instrument for organisations that want to operate more sustainably and make their environmental protection achievements better known amongst the general public.
