In the framework of hosting SEED, adelphi implemented a project on behalf of UN Women. UN Women is the United Nation Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The SEED Gender Equality Awards were part of the SEED Awards, in 2014 a total of 41 exceptional social and environmental enterprises received the award. The overall objective of the project was to hand out two SEED Gender Equality Awards 2014 to the most promising social and environmental enterprises that are women-led or owned, and prioritise gender equality or women’s empowerment as a core objective.
The SEED Gender Equality Award Winners were identified through an international competition targeting developing countries and emerging economies. The winners received professional counselling to strengthen and continuously improve innovative concepts to sustainable development, gender equality and women empowerment, they were also profiled internationally and had the opportunity of peer learning with their fellow SEED Winners. Part of this support comprised the participation in the SEED Symposium in Nairobi, Kenya in September 2014, organised and implemented by adelphi. As part of the project activities, the winner's progress and impact over time was assesed and summarised in a study report.
