Planning for energy security and sustainability in Central Asia

Ausgetrocknete Landschaft

One of Central Asia’s top priorities is to increase energy security. However, building and expanding the necessary infrastructure can have far-reaching social and environmental consequences. Scenario planning can be used to identify the various options and associated risks and to identify sustainable paths to energy security.

The Environment and Security Initiative (ENVSEC) therefore planned a scenario development workshop in Central Asia. In addition to developing a range of scenarios and developing policy recommendations, the workshop aimed to consolidate a network of energy and environment professionals and raise awareness of the relationship between energy and the environment. In cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), adelphi provided support to ENVSEC in preparations to host the scenario workshop.
