Cities both contribute to and suffer from the consequences of climate change. Innovative measures for climate action and adaptation to new climatic conditions have already had a positive impact on city dwellers, for example by reducing air pollution, making the movement of passengers and goods more efficient, and creating new spaces for social interaction. However, in order to enable sustainable and inclusive urban transformation, these measures must be well planned and effectively implemented. New forms of cooperation between urban actors and new service models can and should play an important role here. Although future-oriented project ideas have already been developed, many cities in developing and emerging countries lack the capacities to develop the projects and secure financing.
Against this background, adelphi is supporting the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in the conceptual preparation and implementation of the CFFactory, an international conference that took place from 28-30 November in Berlin to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience among the C40 cities as well as between cities and (financial) service providers. The aim of this event was to share CFF's approach and the lessons of the pilot phase with actors in the field of project preparation and financing, promote cooperation, and improve understanding of the needs of the actors involved. The thematic focus has been on aspects of financing and transformation. To this end, the conference brought together a large number of stakeholders from the C40 cities and their potential transformation partners from the financial sector, international donor institutions, mobility companies, urban think tanks, and foundations as well as non-governmental organisations and project preparation institutions.
adelphi supported the concept design of the conference sessions and was responsible for the acquisition and briefing of speakers. Throughout the course of the conference, adelphi supported the implementation of the overall conference plan as well as the moderation of interactive formats. For the event's wrap-up, adelphi created and implemented the documentation with videos and a magazine.
