Human well-being depends largely on the conservation of the biological diversity of ecosystems. At the same time, increased resource efficiency contributes significantly to combating the exploitation of nature and helps improve the cost structure in companies. Especially small and medium-sized enterprises find it difficult to address these challenges independently.

On behalf of the European Commission and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), adelphi, the Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IFaS) have developed the SME Sustainability Check. It provides small and medium-sized enterprises in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland with an incentive to protect biological diversity and use resources more efficiently. The basis for the provided recommendations on improvements is an analysis of the use of raw materials and plant equipment in the participating enterprises.
