In the framework of the European Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources, adelphi and its project partners were taking a closer look at options for sustainable provision of rare natural resources that derive from conflict regions. The project’s background paper and workshop focused on the case of coltan and the information- and communication technology sector.

The workshop brought together representatives of this sector to discuss with representatives from policy, civil society and research about the exploitation of rare minerals in conflict zones, trade flows, and sustainability. The aim was to elaborate recommendations how this specific case can be adequately integrated into the Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources.
