Translated title: Adaptation to climate change as a new policy field (status quo)

What sorts of impacts of climate change on the economy and society will we in Germany need to anticipate, und how can we steel ourselves against them? This national study represents a first survey of the research on climate change taking in all topical areas and societal sectors. In it, 126 authors from across Germany address topics such as observed and future changes, weather disasters and their consequences, projections for the future, risks, and possible adaptation strategies.

Christian Kind (adelphi) is one of the co-authors of a chapter on policy instruments for climate change adaptation in Germany. In it, he discusses examples of good practice in adaptation. To provide a basis for this actively-used concept, he proposes six criteria for approximating a definition of “good” adaptation measures. The criteria can be used to develop or evaluate activities for dealing with the effects of climate change. They were developed on the basis of a broad literature review and a series of interviews aimed at defining good adaptation practice.
