In Burundi, environmental risks have become a national concern. The most severe risks result from landslides, floods, and drought, which cause considerable losses and damages. The likelihood of being affected by these risks is projected to increase in the future, due to climate change, population growth, over-exploitation of natural resources, and other natural and human-induced factors. Burundi does not yet have sufficient human resources in the area of risk prevention and disaster management (DRM) yet, hence local capacities need to be developed.

The aim of this guide is to assist members of the Communal Risk Prevention and Disaster Management Platforms (PF-C) in training local multipliers in the field of risk prevention and disaster management. Therefore, the guide proposes precise gives an overview of the key actors and their responsibilities in responding to environmental risks, including the PF-C and local multipliers.
