The European City Facility (EUCF) supports municipalities, local authorities and their groupings from the EU-27 and the UK in developing investment concepts that accelerate the implementation of their energy and climate action plans. In the course of its launch webinar on 7 April, the EUCF presented the dates for its first call for applications: 25 May 2020 to 2 October 2020. This round will be followed by three more calls, taking place in 2021 and 2022.

With more than 1000 registered participants, the huge interest for the EUCF webinar has once more demonstrated the need for initiatives that address the barriers faced particularly by small and medium sized municipalities across Europe: limited human and financial resources, lack of experience and expertise in developing investment packages and generally conservative approaches to project financing. Against this backdrop, the EUCF steps up to support local investments in sustainable energy.

How to apply to the EUCF

Acknowledging the limited resources of many small and medium sized municipalities, the EUCF has developed a simple, flexible and transparent application process. It consists of two steps:

  1. Eligibility check
  2. Full application

The eligibility check is a simple, automated questionnaire, which can be answered by the applicant directly online. It verifies whether an applicant is eligible to apply for financial support from the EUCF. Eligible applicants can proceed with completing the online application form, where they have to briefly explain the sustainable energy project they intend to implement and how they plan to develop their investment concept within the EUCF framework. More information about the application process is available on the EUCF website.

adelphi, as part of the EUCF-Team, is happy to see such great interest amongst European cities and looks forward to receiving many applications in the upcoming months!
