Funded by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the NDC Support Cluster convenes thought leaders on NDC implementation. Together, they form a “collaborative think tank” on NDC implementation under the BMU’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) to unfold and proliferate what works and what is needed for effective NDC implementation. The Cluster has four distinct thematic work streams: political and institutional frameworks, sector approaches, financing, and data and transparency.
adelphi has been contracted to support the work of the NDC Cluster Thematic Working Groups by designing and conducting a series of five highly interactive and innovative workshops. The objective is to single out and refine the expertise and experience of the NDC Cluster implementing partners and renowned experts from implementing organisations, country governments, think tanks and academia regarding effective NDC implementation in NDC Cluster partner countries and beyond. The outcomes of the five workshops provided new insights and stimuli for the global debate around NDC implementation and served as a basis for the future strategic direction of the NDC Cluster thematic work.
Using interactive formats such as peer-to-peer consultation, focus group discussions and World Café, the workshops focused on identifying common challenges and experiences regarding NDC implementation. By applying an innovative prototyping methodology, participants had the opportunity to develop new approaches to overcome challenges with NDC implementation in partner countries. The outputs of the workshop resulted in a set of recommendations on NDC implementation for the international development community and/or the International Climate Initiative, as well as in a series of approaches to common challenges with NDC implementation in NDC Cluster partner countries.
adelphi designed and facilitated the overall workshop process, provided input to the thematic discussions of the different working groups, and was responsible for the consolidation of the workshop outputs and its presentation in international fora.
