Eisinger, Frederik; Annica Cochu und Rainer Agster 2017: Der deutsche Green Bond Markt - für ein langfristiges Wachstum. Studie in Kooperation mit dem Bundesverband Öffentlicher Banken Deutschlands, VÖB. Berlin: adelphi.

Translated title: The German green bond market - for long-term growth. Study written by adelphi in cooperation with the German Association of Public-Sector Banks (Bundesverband Öffentlicher Banken Deutschlands, VÖB).

Fighting climate change and environmental degradation requires large investments. Green bonds can be used to provide relevant funding. Globally, green bond markets show strong growth rates .There is also a vibrant market in Germany: In 2016, German market participants issued green bonds with a total volume of US$ 4.3 billion. However, while the potential for growth in the German green bond market is large, there is also need for action to support market participants.

The study "The German green bond market - for long-term growth" examines the current development of the green bond market in Germany. The authors show barriers to further market growth and sketch possible solutions, ranging from the interpretation and consolidation of green bond standards from a German perspective to strengthening alternative green bond products, such as green project bonds. The study is based on the results of a stakeholder workshop conducted by adelphi in cooperation with the VÖB in April 2017. The workshop and study are part of the VÖB’s Green Bond Initiative Germany.
