Translated title: The nitrogen planetary boundary as reference point for an integrated national nitrogen strategy
The currently proposed nitrogen planetary boundary is considerably transgressed. This study analyses the applicability of the boundary for national nitrogen mitigation. Objectives are i) to downscale the global boundary to the national scale, ii) to assess whether current nitrogen targets sufficiently consider the nitrogen planetary boundary, iii) to outline current models which are able to express the current and future environmental state in relation to different nitrogen dimensions, iv) to describe approaches to institutionalise the findings and v) to illustrate strengths and weaknesses of the nitrogen planetary boundary.
