Climate change is a major barrier to sustainable growth and development in Africa. Although the African continent is the least responsible for climate change, it is particularly vulnerable to its impacts.
Therefore the „African Climate Change and Security" Process" was initiated at the European level. Its aim is to analyse the impacts of climate change on susceptible sectors, including water, energy and food production and to formulate recommendations to help deal with the challenges. Every sector will be analysed by several partners. The water sector will be assessed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Brussels-based Global Water Institute (GWI). adelphi supports the BMZ in developing an analytical framework and in conducting the analysis. In October of 2010, the results will be presented in context of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa. The final report will provide guidance for international dialogues and consultations.
