Reducing of coastal communities’ vulnerability to climate change requires regular operation and maintenance of water treatment plants or dyke constructions. In the framework of the AdaptCap project adelphi conducted training-of-trainer workshops on the O&M of technical adaptation projects.
A total of 35 participants from the AdaptCap partner NGOs and from local pilot projects in den South Indian coastal states Tamil Nadu und Andhra Pradesh were introduced in one-day workshops to concepts and approaches of O&M for adaptation technologies. On this basis they developed plans for select technologies, for instance a solar-powered water filtration unit. They identified the activities required, such as the regular control, cleaning and repair of pumps and solar panels, defined responsibilities, timelines and costs. Trained as local multipliers the participants now function as experts who assist the members of the coastal communities in developing O&M plans for their pilot technologies.
AdaptCap promotes and strengthens the adaptive capacity of coastal communities in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. adelphi on behalf of the European Commission and together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainable Cities – and local partner NGOs implements pilot initiatives in 18 locations.
