The European Union, national and regional governments have implemented a variety of policy instruments and initiatives to support local authorities' mitigation efforts. The experiences with different models will be discussed at an event co-organised by adelphi during the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha on December 1.
The purpose of “Teaming up to meet the targets: models for supporting local authorities in climate action”, an event hosted by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the European Commission – Covenant of Mayors, Climate Alliance and adelphi, is to share and discuss policy instruments, funding mechanisms, capacity building or facilitation of knowledge exchange. Presentations and discussions will aim at raising awareness on the role of local level climate mitigation activities and at inspiring policy-makers to reflect upon experiences elsewhere and possibly adopt actions to pursue in their respective country.
Speakers will include representatives from the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the European Commission – Covenant of Mayors as well as Climate Alliance. The event which is taking place from 1 to 3 pm in the EU Pavilion (conference venue, hall 3, room Lefkosia) and is open to everyone interested in supporting local authorities’ mitigation activities.
