The jury at the 2012 EMAS Awards was impressed with the concepts put forth by six diverse organisations in the field of water management. At this year’s awards ceremony, organised by adelphi, EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik praised the contributions to water protection in Europe.
Since 2005 the European Commission has recognised the environmental contributions of EMAS-registered organisations across six categories. The focus of the awards changes annually, and this year a total of 27 organisations from 14 European countries were nominated for their work in the field of water management. The six award winners demonstrated excellence in environmental performance and protection, developing highly innovative measures for the improvement of water quality, with a particular focus on the efficient and economic use of resources.
For the second year in a row, adelphi was responsible for the design and implementation of the competition. The Berlin-based think tank supported the jury of environmental experts chaired by Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environmental Agency, and guided the overall organisation of the evening’s events.
