adelphi has been awarded the contract for a project on the “development of concepts for a national climate protection fund to restore moorland” as part of the Environmental Research Plan 2012. The project has been commissioned by the Federal Environment Agency's German Emissions Trading Authority.
The project will focus on whether and how a fund should be used to support national moorland conservation projects. It will involve analysis of existing funding methods with the aim of drawing useful conclusions for a German funding model to restore moorland. The moorland conservation fund could finance protective measures by offering valuable certificates on the voluntary market to offset greenhouse gas emissions in Germany.
adelphi has been commissioned to develop recommendations on how best to structure the moorland conservation fund. This will involve examining the project types, approved methodologies and standards, the various options for technical and financial support and the target group. The project will be conducted in cooperation with Professor Matthias Drösler from the faculty of Plant Ecology at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences
