More than 1.3 billion people lack access to adequate energy supply while at the same time both demand and consumption are continuously rising. What are the challenges and opportunities in providing clean and sustainable energy access for all was the focus of the debate chaired by adelphi at the 6th Convergences World Forum in Paris.
Universal access to energy remains one of the most significant challenges for today’s world. Despite the fact that sustainable solutions and developments in the renewable energy- and energy efficiency sector are on the rise, fossil fuels still remain the main source for energy. adelphi, as host of the SEED Initiative, chaired a debate on “Clean and sustainable energy for all: What challenges and opportunities for 2030?” at the 6th Convergences World Forum in Paris. The panel brought together experts from AFD, EIB, IEA, GDF Suez, PAMIGA, a microcredit organisation active in Africa and the TERI-Institute from India and highlighted the importance of greening the global energy mix and developing affordable energy access solutions. The experts especially addressed the need to foster green entrepreneurship at the grassroots to enable last-mile energy access.
The 6th Convergences World Forum held at the Palais Brongniart in Paris on September 17, 18 and 19 brought together more than 5000 international experts/participants, policymakers, companies, social stakeholders, NGOs and intellectuals to discuss and work together on innovative solutions to reduce poverty in Northern and Southern countries.
