The "Climate change and financial service providers: Tapping markets of the future – Avoiding business risks" conference held in Frankfurt on the Main from September 7 to September 9, 2007, brought together over 170 decision makers and experts from the financial sector and the world of politics. The main objective of the event was to illustrate how significant investors consider climate change to be and, as a result, what demands are made on the economy as a whole. One focal point was on the opportunities and risks arising from climate change in terms of asset management. Expert presentations underlined the investment opportunities associated with an active climate protection policy, particularly those in the field of environmental technologies and ecological innovation.
The event acted as a starting point for revitalising a wide-ranging dialogue about climate change and its significance for financial service providers. At the same time, it provided an opportunity to draft a paper for the attention of the G8 environment and energy ministers at their meeting held at Gleneagles in 2007.
